Training written for the athlete in front of us, not lifted off a template.

Omniathlete Sport Ltd works with athletes and with clubs on the physical side of performance: how an athlete moves, what they can currently produce, and what the training year has to look like if that is going to change. The work is conditioning, assessment and coaching support — planning, programming and the coaching of the programme.

How the programming is structured

4

Physical qualities carried through every block — strength, speed, endurance and range of movement. Training one while abandoning the others is how athletes go backwards.

3

Phases in a training block: building the work capacity, sharpening it, then bringing the athlete to the point where it shows in competition.

1

Programme written per athlete. Squad sessions are planned around the group, but the plan behind an individual is theirs.

Programmes

Four ways the practice is engaged. Most athletes start with the first and add the others as the season demands.

Movement assessment

Before any programme is written, we watch the athlete move — walking, running, changing direction, loading and unloading, jumping and landing. What is being looked for is how the athlete organises themselves under load: where the range of movement runs out, which side takes over, and what compensations appear once they are tired. It is a training assessment producing a training plan, not an examination of any other kind.

Conditioning programmes

A written plan covering the training year, broken into blocks and then into sessions. It states what each session is for, how heavy or fast it should feel, and what to do on a day when the athlete arrives flat. Programmes are built to sit inside the competition calendar, so the hard work lands when there is time to absorb it and eases off when it matters that the athlete is fresh.

Coaching the sessions

A programme on paper is worth very little if the lifts and drills are performed badly. Sessions are coached in person: technique corrected while it is happening, load adjusted to what the athlete has on the day, and the reasoning explained, so that over a season the athlete comes to need the coach less.

Consultancy for clubs

For clubs and squads, the work is usually structural: reviewing how the training week is put together, how sessions are progressed across age groups, and how the physical programme fits around the technical coaching and the fixture list. The output is a plan the club's own coaches can run, along with the training of those coaches to run it.

How the work is approached

Training adaptation is slow and largely unglamorous. An athlete improves by repeating sensible work often enough for the body to adapt to it, then increasing it by an amount small enough to be absorbed. Most of the skill in programming lies in deciding how much is enough and in holding an ambitious athlete back from doing more than that.

So the programmes are conservative in their progressions and specific in their intent. Every session has a stated purpose. Load is recorded, so that a decision to push or ease off is measured against what the athlete has actually done, not against how the last session felt. And where the honest answer to a question is rest instead of another stimulus, that is the answer given.

Work is with athletes and clubs on their sporting performance. Anything falling outside that — matters properly belonging to other professions — is referred on. Those questions belong with the people trained to answer them.

Enquiries

Write to the practice. For an individual athlete, say what your sport is, what level you compete at, what your season looks like and what you are trying to improve. For a club, say how many athletes are involved, what coaching you already have in place, and what is prompting the enquiry.

Enquiries are answered in writing so that what has been agreed is on the record.
